How to have a fun couples photoshoot.

Fun couples photoshoot ideas so you’re not bored or feeling awkward!

Laura Beth was a past client who I had taken business branding photos for a couple years ago. I wound up also taking her engagement and wedding photos!

LB and Barry were so sweet together when we did couples photos - constantly snuggling up, making each other laugh, holding hands and sharing thoughts with one another. By the end of their couples photoshoot Barry said it was the most fun he had ever had on a photoshoot!

Here’s what you need to keep in mind so you can have a fun couples photoshoot…

Picking your couples photos location:

It’s best to pick a place that the two of you love, have special memories of, and are comfortable at. The way I do my couples photoshoots is making it an experience for the two of you to slow down and connect, and where we are hanging out plays BIG role in that! It shouldn’t just feel like you’re getting your photos taken… it should be like a unique date! Some ideas: Going to one of your go-to hang out spots, going to a place to enjoy an activity you love, the place of your first date, or even your home! Best yet - plan a staycation or a special trip!

Couples poses are great, but connection is even better!

One of the things people tend to dislike so much on photoshoots is when they’re just going from one pose to the next… stand here, turn there, walk here… it’s boring, and it’s easy to get stuck in your head and overthink how you look. While directing couples during photoshoots is important, I put a big emphasis on connection so that we are capturing real moments and not just manufactured ones! There are various questions and prompts that I give couples to help them get a little less aware of the camera, and a little more lost in the moment. TIPS: compliment each other, snuggle up and be cute with one another, dance, or even do something as simple as playing with her hair.

Incorporate things you love:

It could be anything from reading each other your old love letters, having a picnic of your favorite snacks, opening a bottle of your favorite wine, reading favorite poems to one another, or even just having a favorite playlist or album playing in the background… it all adds to the atmosphere and keeps you in the moment with each other.

LB & Barry’s story:

One of their first dates was at this distillery, and it became a thing that they loved doing together, so they visited various ones throughout their dating period! We arrived here and they ordered drinks before going to sit in the chairs where they spent hours talking for the first time. They explored the property and reminisced, and eventually made their way out to an open field where they danced to a favorite song. It was the perfect afternoon…
